My role: UX/UI Designer
Methods: Usability testing, Discussion with the client.

MARKET RESEARCH

The conversation began with a discovery meeting, where we met with the clinic’s owner, the lead dentist, and their clinic coordinator. They expressed a clear goal: to streamline appointment booking for both dental and massage services while enhancing their online presence to reflect their holistic, patient-centered approach.

We asked about their current workflow and pain points. They shared that while phone bookings worked for many, patients increasingly asked for online options. They wanted a simple, modern interface that could cater to both new and returning patients, and allow for secure bookings, practitioner selection, and calendar sync features.

They also emphasized that their brand wasn't just about dental care—it was about wellness, and they wanted that reflected in the design.

ABOUT THE WEBSITE

The Oral Health and Wellness Clinics website is a user-friendly platform designed to provide patients with convenient access to affordable dental and wellness services, including dental care and therapeutic massage. The website reflects the clinic's professional yet welcoming atmosphere, aiming to create a seamless digital experience that mirrors the high-quality care offered in person.

PROBLEM

Our team of 3 dedicated designers including myself were given an important task. The original website required an update to keep up with the competitors and have better solutions for a user-friendly interface. We needed to consider the existing target audience and improvements in the interface of the website to bring their experience to a higher level.

TARGET AUDIENCE RESEARCH & PERSONA CREATION

The goal was to understand who would be using the website, what their needs and preferences were, and how we could design a digital experience that meets their expectations while driving bookings.

We began by interviewing the clinic owner, a lead dental hygienist, and the massage therapist. We asked:

  • Who are your typical patients?

  • What types of services are most commonly booked?

  • What are common patient concerns, questions, or barriers?

From these conversations, we identified two broad user groups:

  • Routine dental patients, often families or professionals

  • Massage clients, often looking for stress relief or chronic pain support.

Based on the research, we developed 2 key personas to guide the design and user experience. Their info can be seen on the right.

Each persona informed different decisions:

  • Homepage structure: Quick links for dental & massage.

  • Accessibility: High contrast modes, scalable text, and minimal distractions

  • Tone and language: Warm, simple, professional—clear even for first-time users.
